Classroom & Parking Building
Architect: Griffin Architecture
Location: Pearl River Community College Poplarville, MS The State of Mississippi's public education system is a frequent target of criticism, funding problems and political wrangling. However, in a state where performance standards are consitantly at the bottom of national rankings, the Community College system is one of the bright spots, with strong 2-year programs densely distributed across this small state. PRCC was able to benefit from federal funding following Hurricane Katrina and strong community support to upgrade several facilities at the Poplarville campus. White Coliseum is the latest in a long line of renovation work since the storm that has had a direct impact on programs ranging from student housing, fine arts and athletics.
Our work for this project includes architectural acoustics and noise control for the arena space and comprehensive design of integrated Audio Visual systems for the arena and BOH areas. The AV design reflects the college's mandate for long-term flexibility, cost-effective implementation, ease of use and simple maintenance. With a focus on speech intelligibility, the innovative sound reinforcement design supports a wide variety of events and seating configurations to support sports events in addition to graduation and other large events. |
